information found in your textbook, Experience Sociology, Fourth
Edition, by David Croteau and William Hoynes. You must only use your

Topics
Option 1: Feminism and Social Change
Read Chapter 11, “Gender and Sexuality” and Chapter 17, “Social
Change: Globalization, Population, and Social Movements.” After
carefully reviewing these chapters, reflect on inequality between the
genders. Then, consider the functionalist thinking that gender
inequalities provide positive functions in society. For your essay, choose
one of the following positions:

has, and continues to, hit roadblocks in terms of creating lasting

social change is due to the innate nature of social change and
social movements.
Your essay must include the following:
A definition of social inequality and feminism according to the text,
as well as in your own words
An explanation of the characteristics of social change
A clearly stated opinion for your support of one of the statements
A logical argument of your position
Option 2: Racial Inequality and Social Change
Review Chapter 10, “Race and Ethnicity,” in your textbook, Experience
Sociology, Fourth Edition. Also review Chapter 17, “Social Change:
Globalization, Population, and Social Movements.”
Develop an essay arguing how conflict can develop within social
movements as a result of the involvement of the dominant majority in
movements for marginalized minority groups. Include in your essay your
own opinion about whether minority social movements should include
members of the dominant majority.

A logical argument based on the readings, your own personal
experience, and/or the experiences of others
A clearly stated opinion about whether social movements involving

Developing the Body of Your Paper
Choose ONLY one of the assigned topics and create a thoughtful, wellwritten essay of 750 to 1,000 words using only your textbook.
Your essay should be typed in complete-paragraph format and doublespaced. Save your cover page, essay, and works cited page as a single
document in Microsoft Word or Rich Text Format only.
References
Include an APA-style references page.
Remember: If you use the exact words of any author, you must use
quotation marks and cite the information properly.

Use a standard font like Times New Roman in 12-point font size.
